With her personal highlights so this year, such as being hand-picked by Snoop Dogg to join him on stage during the YouTube Brandcast in May 2013 Niykee has kept up her songwriting regimen despite the ups and downs of recent years. Songwriting is a source of inspiration for aspiring producers. Niykee listens constantly to beats and discovers many songs that inspire her. It's easy to tell when a beat's good after the first five seconds, and I'll get a song in my mind and begin creating right away, she adds. My guitar sits on the back porch and I let the thoughts flow. The process usually takes about 30 minutes. Niykee states that, as she grows as a lyricist her painful memories from her childhood serve as an inspiration. The hurt I experienced growing in my youth and the loss of my sister is present in my songs, even if they're not literal. It shapes my songs and builds this deeper understanding behind all things that's among the most significant things that I value. It is important to me to realize that I can hear any of my songs in 20 years down the road and be proud of what I wrote.
