Her initial inspiration was the shadows that were cast onto grass. After a few weeks she devised a process which did not create the object she chose on the canvas as an unflat image. The subject instead transforms into a representation of the subject and the canvas transforms into the medium for it's own painterly interpretation, especially when the subjects are living or perishable items like people or fruits. The transient nature of her painterly style is obvious and the only thing that remains of Alexa Meade's art is a photographs. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved by combining the two techniques of photographing and painting. This creates two-dimensional flattened image. Meade has integrated her model paintings into the 3-dimensional space around them. Interaction between them as well as the world they created is conceivable. It eliminates any distinction between painting, photography and installation.
